Established in 1994, the Averil Osborn Award seeks to promote and support work which enhances the participation and leadership of older people in research. Awards are made annually. The panel are seeking new panel members to join the current established team. We are also seeking a new Secretary to the Panel as the current Secretary is stepping down after serving since 2019.

My name is Dr Emma Short. I am a research associate at Cardiff Metropolitan University and a Consultant Histopathologist in Swansea Bay University Health Board. I am wanting to enquire whether anyone would be interested in joining a working group as a subject-expert as part of our project, the 'Classification and Staging of Age-Related Pathology'. The project seeks to unify current research on the biology of ageing, by developing a comprehensive system for classifying and staging age-related pathology, to complement the WHO’s International Classification of Diseases (ICD).

This Report summarises findings from a Policy Lab that explored the value, feasibility and acceptability of shifting how we view the ageing process. Its goal is to achieve attitudinal change to ageing, by moving away from a narrative of disease and decline towards the idea that ageing is a lifelong process of change.

In this photovoice exhibition, nine older people from Myanmar living in Mae Sai share their perspectives on their daily lives and what care means to them, shedding light on the importance of nature and religion. This participatory project was part of Samia Akhter-Khan’s PhD project and co-produced with Ben Lu, a 60-year-old woman from Myanmar living in Mae Sai. Pre- and post-comparisons of loneliness show that older people felt less lonely after the project, suggesting that photovoice may function as an intervention for loneliness among older migrants. The exhibition was curated by participants themselves, was exhibited live in Mae Sai and London, and is divided into four parts. The first part focuses on the definition of care and visualizes how older people provide for others
